The Indian Chamber of Commerce in Italy participated in the SUSTMOVIE event during the 80th Venice Film Festival

The Indian Chamber of Commerce for Italy sponsored the event titled SustMOVIE, which was successfully held on August 31, 2023, on the occasion of the 80th Venice International Film Festival, at the Spazio Cinematografo of the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido of Venice, curated by contemporary art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico, who also serves as the scientific, artistic, and cultural director of the ICCI.

The initiative, organized by the Ethicando Association of Milan and the international communication platform Betting On Italy (BOI), in collaboration with the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo and Cinematografo magazine, consisted of a roundtable discussion focused on the sustainability of contemporary cinema, featuring various figures from the cultural and institutional sectors, journalists, artists, and entrepreneurs connected in various ways to the film industry.

SustMOVIE is an opportunity for dialogue among academics, institutions, and film industry professionals ,”said art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico . “A film is sustainable not only insofar as it is ‘green’—that is, produced with respect for the environment and the human resources involved—but also insofar as it succeeds in combining the creative work of the various artists involved in its production with the frontiers of new technologies (artificial intelligence, etc.) and the need to still produce an artistic work that contributes to social enrichment and regional development.”

ICCI Secretary General Luciano Pettoello Mantovani took part in the discussion alongside other dignitaries, including Senator Roberto Marti (Chair of the 7th Standing Committee of the Senate of the Republic—Culture and Cultural Heritage, Public Education, Scientific Research, Entertainment, and Sports), Davide Milani (President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo in Rome), Cristina Bolla (President of the Genova Liguria Film Commission), Severino Ricci (representative of the California Surf Museum in Oceanside, CA – USA), and Carlo Poggioli (President of A.S.C. – Italian Association of Set and Costume Designers).

The event also received the patronage of the California Surf Museum in Oceanside (CA – USA), several local public bodies (the Municipality of Nardò, the Municipality of Gallipoli, and the Province of Lecce), as well as media support from the magazines E-cinema, Beesness, Arti e Spettacolo, and Italy2California. It is, moreover, part of a series of scientific conferences taking place at various locations in Italy and abroad (Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, Senate of the Italian Republic, Italian Chamber of Deputies, University of Milan, Comillas Pontifical University).

The event’s curator, Mr. Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico—an art critic and, among other roles, the scientific, artistic, and cultural director of ICCI—interviewed Senator Roberto Marti (Chair of the 7th Standing Committee of the Senate of the Republic—Culture and Cultural Heritage, Public Education, Scientific Research, Entertainment, and Sports)
