India Beyond Emerging Markets: ICCI Supports UTI Investment Dialogue and Embassy Meeting in Rome
The program brought together Italian professional investors, Indian financial experts, and diplomatic representatives to explore India’s investment landscape and strengthen bilateral relations.
On October 13, 2026, an event organized in Rome in collaboration with AssoLabfondi and the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Italy (ICCI) welcomed Praveen Jagwani, CFA, CEO and Global Head of UTI Investments (UTI International Limited), for a discussion with Italian professional investors on India’s economic transformation and its role in global equity portfolios.
The event opened with remarks by Shri Gaurav Gandhi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Rome, who set the institutional context for a discussion on India’s growth prospects and investment relations between the two countries.
The discussion explored whether India warrants a separate assessment within the broader emerging markets universe, taking into account its economic characteristics, market dynamics, and investment risks. Jagwani examined the structural drivers of India’s development, including demographics, domestic consumption, and urbanization, as well as the country’s regulatory framework and corporate governance.
Another key focus was India’s potential contribution to diversification in increasingly concentrated global equity portfolios. The exchange encouraged participants to look beyond broad market classifications and develop a more informed understanding of the opportunities and complexities of investing in India.
Following the event, ICCI organized a meeting between the UTI delegation and H.E. Vani Rao, India’s Ambassador to Italy, at the Indian Embassy in Rome. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral economic relations and the potential for closer engagement between the Italian and Indian investment communities.
Together, the investor event and the Embassy meeting reflected ICCI’s commitment to connecting businesses, financial institutions, and diplomatic representatives in support of stronger Italy–India relations.
ICCI extends its sincere thanks to Praveen Jagwani and the UTI team, AssoLabfondi, and Sergio Carfizzi for their collaboration, and to Ambassador Vani Rao, Deputy Chief of Mission Gaurav Gandhi, and the Embassy of India for their support and hospitality.
