Exploring India as a Strategic Market for Italian Companies: ICCI Supports High-Level Business Event in Vicenza
The Indian Chamber of Commerce in Italy (ICCI) was pleased to offer its patronage and active participation in the event “International Markets and Business Tools: Focus on India,” held on May 20, 2025, at the Montecchio Maggiore headquarters of Confindustria Vicenza. The event was jointly organized by Cherry Bank and ASSOMAC, with the valuable collaboration of ICCI and the Veneto Leather District – Distretto Veneto della Pelle.
This high-level workshop aimed to provide Italian companies—particularly SMEs in the leather, fashion, and manufacturing sectors—with practical tools and insights for entering international markets, with a specific focus on the opportunities presented by India. Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, the session addressed the growing need for Italian enterprises to identify and pursue new markets, and India was highlighted as one of the most promising destinations for trade and industrial collaboration.
ICCI’s Strategic Role
Representing ICCI, Secretary General Luciano Pettoello Mantovani was invited as one of the keynote speakers. His remarks focused on the broader dynamics of Indo-Italian trade and investment, outlining current economic trends in India, the government’s reform agenda, and the key sectors where Italian businesses can gain a competitive edge. Mr. Pettoello Mantovani also spoke about ICCI’s role in supporting market entry, building partnerships, and creating institutional and commercial bridges between Italian and Indian counterparts.
Institutional and Industry Participation
The event featured a wide range of expert presentations. Vincenzo Galileo, Head of Corporate Banking at Cherry Bank, provided an in-depth overview of how the bank supports companies in their international expansion efforts, offering practical tools throughout the export lifecycle, including access to subsidized credit and public guarantees.
Roberta Maggiolo, Head of Correspondent Banking at Cherry Bank, offered valuable insights into the workings of the Indian banking system and how Italian companies can manage their relationships with Indian financial institutions.
Luca Vezzaro, Head of Foreign Markets at Cherry Bank, rounded out the discussion on business prospects by sharing successful case studies and operational strategies that have enabled Italian companies to succeed globally.
Also participating were:
- Mauro Bergozza, President of ASSOMAC
- Giacomo Camerra, Vice President of the Western Vicenza Group of Confindustria Vicenza
Both emphasized the importance of strategic foresight and practical support for businesses seeking to expand internationally, particularly in complex but high-potential markets such as India.
A Platform for Engagement
The event successfully brought together banking professionals, institutional stakeholders, and entrepreneurs from across the Veneto region. It served as an important platform for strengthening business ties between Italy and India, deepening understanding of India’s regulatory and commercial landscape, and supporting the internationalization efforts of Italian SMEs.
ICCI’s Ongoing Commitment
As the leading organization for Indo-Italian business relations, ICCI remains committed to facilitating cross-border cooperation, providing insights into the Indian market, and guiding companies through their international expansion strategies. Events like this are essential for raising awareness, fostering partnerships, and strengthening Italy’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
We would like to thank Cherry Bank, ASSOMAC, and the Veneto Leather District for organizing such a meaningful initiative, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with institutions, industry groups, and businesses across Italy to promote stronger bilateral ties with India.
